Intro to World Literature
Introduction to World Literature This course is an introduction to the critical analysis of imaginative literature of the world, the dissemination of themes and myths, and the role of translation as the medium for reaching different cultures. Through the careful reading of selected classic texts from a range of Western and non-Western cultures, students will deepen their understanding and appreciation of the particular texts under consideration, while developing a critical vocabulary with which to discuss and write about these texts, both as unique artistic achievements of individual and empathetic imagination and as works affected by, but also transcending their historical periods.

I had a great time taking this class with Roger. He's super nice and was always there to help if you needed anything. You can tell he's passionate about the subject. This class is based in reading, but the readings were usually engaging, and the amount was manageable. Sometimes they were difficult to understand. The evening discussions were super chill, just show up, and there were a couple where we didn't even have it.

I absolutely loved this class. Professor Russi is so sweet and extremely accommodating. He also loves teaching the material. The Tuesday evening symposiums are extremely interesting and added so much depth to our readings, which were very well selected. If you do not like reading, you probably will not like this class as we read a book per week. However, the books are very interesting and generally not too long.

Course was great. Reading are not necessarily required to participate in class but a solid understanding is needed for the papers. Papers are usually a bit of a grind as they are assigned sometimes within the week they are due, sometimes only having 4 days to complete it. Professor Graf is very accommodating and overall a great person.
Professor Graf is one of the sweetest and nicest professors I have had at Middlebury. He is one gem of a professor. He is very passionate about what he teaches and knows so much about it too. However, the class was somewhat boring. There wasn't much excitement to engage in the class, but it might just be me since I'm not too interested in literature. I still learned a lot from this class. I just would have learned everything in a month instead of 3

Great way to get a CW and cultural credit without having to do a ton of work. Not very difficult but also not super interesting (unless you're very interested in the course material). Take with a friend if you can
Timothy Portice is such a fun professor, in-class discussions were never boring, forced, or intimidating. There were quite a few essays, but considering this is a CW course, it was manageable. There’s a lot of readings, a LOT, but if you enjoy literature its 100% worth it.
I found the class to be quite interesting in terms of the different readings, and discussions. The class is at night so it can be a little tiresome to go to, but overall he is super accommodating. Would recommend.
Roger Russi is SO sweet and you can write whatever you want for the essays there are only a few and they're 4 pages each very fair grading would definitely recommend. Lectures can be really boring if the class didn't do the readings though.
