Community Connected Learning
Community Connected Learning Community-connected learning supports civic knowledge cultivation, skill building, and identity development. In this course students will apply their relevant coursework to place-based contexts by collaborating with community partners independently or in groups to complete a community-connected learning project that will contribute to the public good. Center for Community Engagement (CCE) instructors will meet with students weekly in cohorts to explore the social and other issues raised in their experiences. Final projects may take a variety of forms, such as a portfolio, media production, or paper. Students should contact the course instructor to discuss, confirm and/or receive assistance in identifying a community partner and to begin to define their projects.

I enjoyed the class, and Kristen, my professor, was always accommodating. Classes are set up to help you understand the final project, which is working with an outside organization. I worked with the Boys and Girls Club, and it was a lot of fun.
My experience in this course was extremely positive. Even though the project work was time-consuming, it was a meaningful experience as I was able to contribute to a cause that I cared about. The course is well-structured and the instructors are very supportive. More than producing tangible outcomes, the emphasis is on one's learning, giving you the opportunity to hone your critical thinking and self-reflection skills without too much pressure.

Kristen Mullens was a great professor! I took the course because I needed to fill my schedule, and I am so glad I did. We had one project throughout the semester, a 250 word writing reflection once a week, and it was a really easy class. It doesn't fill any distribution requirements, but besides that- if you are looking for a really easy A, I highly recommend this class!! (Kristen only teaches in the fall too, so I am not too sure how the Spring professor is).

Kristen is very supportive and the class content is very engaging. The choice of projects are also broad and each project has its own uniqueness. It is so different from a conventional college course and actually allows you to engage in community service outside of class time.
Kristen is the most enthusiastic teacher that I have had at Middlebury. She comes to class every day with a great plan. The project work in this class is also amazing.. it really lets you get out into the town/Addison county.
Kristen is super nice and supportive, the majority of the class is rooted around a volunteer-based project that you do with a partner. There is writing due every week but it is completion graded and Kristen is very accommodating.
Very nice instructor! She is very generous and would even bake a cake for your birthday. Discussions are fun and engaging, with that being said, you gonna need to read the materials before coming to class. The reading is not that heavy and not dry at all.
This course was very interesting and provided very valuable life skills; however, I found that it took up a lot of time. The projects that you work on within this class take about 4-5 hours per week and you have to complete other assignments and reading on top of this. The concepts you learn in this class, as well as the involvement with organizations in Addison County, are very interesting.

Kristen was nice, but considering that I was looking for a filler class, CCL took up a lot of my time. I chose a community partner that was 20 mins away by car, except I do not own a car. I had difficulties getting to my community partner and communication was pretty bad.
