Introduction to Sociology: The Sociological Imagination In this course, we will study social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior on American society. Specifically, we will examine the ways that individuals interact in social groups, organizations, and the larger society and the ways that the larger society both influences and is influenced by various social actors. Specific topics may range from crime, education, health, the economy, wealth, income, families, religion, race, gender, sexuality, class, among others with the goal of examining how individuals come together to construct society. In addition, we will explore the ways that social inequalities are created and maintained, examining many different perspectives and research techniques that sociologists use to answer some of society’s most important questions.

This class was awesome! I took it with Rebecca Tiger and I thought she was so engaging. The class was really fun, if you go to office hours or participate in class she will like you. Would take again, class was not hard
I took this class for my major and it was fine. I had Prof Tiger who is kind of insane (in a good way) and while I wouldn’t say she was effective - she rants more than teaches or explains concepts - she is definitely passionate about sociology and wants students to succeed. However, if she can tell you’re taking her class for an easy A, she will not like you at all and will make it obvious. Some reading, not very taxing work-wise!

Rebecca tiger is an excellent professor, and this has by far been my favorite class in my first semester here. She shares many interesting personal stories, and is understanding that our lives are busy, so she is very light with homework.
