Chong Han

Taking a class with Chong suk Han was great! I was very excited to learn from the myth himself. But there was a lot of reading and the presentations at the end of the class were really boring but I loved his teaching style.

The professor was very funny and the lectures were always interesting to listen to. The papers and endless readings were really easy to get behind on so you have to have good self discipline to be in this class.

I absolutely love love love Prof. Han and this class, and HIGHLY recommend that you take it if you're considering it/reading this. I actually only took this class because I needed a 4th class, not many others were left, and this only met once a week, and while I enjoyed other Sociology classes I've taken I did not think I would enjoy this one very much. In fact, I had a pretty negative outlook on it before the semester started because I already finished all my course distribution requirements and this was literally just a filler course that wasn't getting me anything on my Degree Prog Worksheet.. but I'm so glad that I took it. Aside from being a really funny and sweet professor, you can tell that Han is just so very knowledgeable and smart about everything, and this class has really changed the way I think about the world -- it's one of those classes that you find yourself passionately explaining to friends and family. Highly recommend taking!! Other (specific) info: you only have to do 5 out of 11 possible assignments; in the syllabus he gives you six essay questions for the first six weeks of the semester, then group book presentations, book review options, then final presentation. I opted to do 4 essays and 1 book review and then coasted the rest of the semester (although everyone does also have to do the group book presentation). He says it's hard to get an A but easy to get an A- in his class .....I may have been excessive and actually submitted all 6 essays plus a book review because he takes your highest grades. However, I met with him the other day to ask about my grade (since not everything was graded) and he said he wasn't even going to bother grading my book review since I did so many assignments (lol), so that was fun to hear. Overall, a really cool prof and an even cooler class.
