This was a great course about a topic totally new to me! The course covers a ton of breadth, from the Big Bang, to plate tectonics, to the formation of life and modern climate change. You learn a lot, but at times I wish we dove more into the specifics. Exams and readings are super chill and Cam is amazing.
This course was an interesting and engaging way to learn about the natural environment. I liked how the class connected scientific concepts to real examples from Vermont’s forests, lakes, and wildlife. The course helped me better understand how ecosystems function and how human activity affects them. Overall, it was a valuable class that made ecology feel practical and relevant.
This course was quite frustrating to be honest. The work load was not too bad, as there was only 8 assignments in total for the entire semester (5 assignments, 2 lecture summaries, 1 final project). The work required in the assignments forced us to have a solid understanding on various complex applications, which was a VERY frustrating and time-consuming process. Unless you have an interest in Environmental Science or just really dislike math classes, I would not take this class. Professor Peters was very kind and funny though, and he was very passionate about the material that is taught in this course. At time though, he could be a bit unhelpful, but it is because he wanted us to struggle with the applications so we learned how to use them ourselves.
