I thought this course, although deeply useful, could use some restructuring. Allison assigned large assignments on a whim and graded them harshly without any explanation of her expectations nor the grading rubric. I thought the lecture materials were useful for juniors and first semester seniors as it is predominantly about networking, the job market and how to market yourself- which is hugely helpful, especially when the CCI is not useful for research based career aspirations. The course is required so I can't tell you not to take it and I did gain things from it, but don't expect it to be a walk in the park and do your work, Allison is a hard grader.

This was a great intro course for ECSC. Professor Jacobel is a great teacher, and clearly interested in the topics of the course. It is a survey course, so moves fairly quickly, but none of the topics were very difficult or confusing.

This is my first course at Middlebury. Professor Jacobel is a wonderful teacher. She engaged the class really well and could push us to think beyond the materials and lead us to use our own experience to contribute to the discussion. The class is super fun if you want to learn some information about every aspect of our Earth. The workload is not that much if you stay on top of everything. Some labs might take longer than others, but overall is super great.
