Shawna Shapiro
A relatively chill class. There is quite a lot of reading to do before every class. Sometimes it can be a little overwhelming, but the articles are fun to read. Professor Shapiro is always enthusiastic and she creates a very friendly and welcoming environment. I feel confident and am willing to share/answer questions in class.
Professor Shapiro always tries to experiment with different ways of presenting materials and it made for an exciting learning journey. Albeit the size of the class (~30 students for my cohort) may take away some perks of having such an accommodating lecturer. Class is participation and project-heavy, so what you put in is really what you'd get. 8/10 would recommend.
Like Professor Shapiro’s other courses, this class has a relaxed atmosphere. The pace is gentle, focusing on foundational grammar concepts in English. There’s minimal homework, and most of the learning happens through in-class conversations and open discussion.
