Shawna Shapiro
Professor Shapiro is very passionate about the class. She is also willing to talk about current affairs regardless of relevancy to socio-linguistics. Course readings are pretty digestable and sometimes take the form of videos and podcasts. The syllabus and teaching schedule, however, is less organized than expected.
I thought Professor Shapiro was great because she was super passionate about her work. I also thought I improved alot as a write because I got so much feedback on my writing. I thought the readings were interesting and overall enjoyed my experience.
This course was fairly easy with digestible weekly readings, two open-note quizzes and three projects. Prof Shapiro is very enthusiastic about the topic but at times class can feel a little rushed and her organization was sometimes a bit chaotic. That being said she's very accommodating to different needs/extensions. Interesting class to take if you're looking for an easy elective.
