Eng Grammar:Concepts & Controv

I took this course originally because it was recommended by my first-year advisor. I have taken a course with Professor Shapiro before so I knew previously that she is an effective and enthusiastic lecturer, but the overall experience still exceeded my expectations. She introduced a lot of topics that are related to the theme but also pertains to real-life issues and events, which made the class a lot more engaging and lively. I would say the class is really informative and great for people interested in sociolinguistics and/or writing, and I would totally recommend it.

Professor Shapiro is very kind and understanding, and cares deeply about students' lives outside of class. She is always willing to meet and talk with students who are struggling, be it for academic or personal reasons, and is very generous in giving extensions and extra support. The content of this particular course may be seen as "basic" or "not college level" for some, but for people—such as myself—who did not have much formal grammar instruction in K-12 schooling, the material covered by this class is essential for anyone wishing to go further in the study of linguistics.

This is a very easy class, but there are still some interesting takeaways from the class, and I found myself learning a lot more than I expected to. Prof. Shapiro is great, and she cares a lot about her students. It's pretty easy to check out of this class, but if you put some interest in, it's actually pretty fun.

I originally took this class because I couldn't get any others but it was surprisingly interesting and ended up being one of my most engaging classes of the semester. Shapiro is very enthusiastic and understanding and made being in the class enjoyable.

Overall, I really enjoyed taking this course with Professor Shapiro. She is an extremely kind and accommodating instructor whose passion for the subject matter is infectious. The assignments are not particularly difficult, especially since there's ample opportunity for you to revise your work if you're not happy with it; however, there's a reasonable amount of homework assigned in the first half of the course and there's a lot of grammatical concepts that are covered which can be a bit confusing if you haven't been formally taught grammar before. That being said, Professor Shapiro has a lot of office hours where you can get extra help if you need it.

This class is extremely easy and one could say it is too easy for a college course. Shapiro is super understanding and is always happy to help. However, this class feels like a Middle School class and sometimes the professor treats us like middle school students. However, easy course and a nice professor.

Professor Shapiro is so personable. She teaches very well although she talks a bit fast so if u're slow you may have to catch up. Being in her class is like being in a pre-college classroom and I love it. Nothing is ever that serious. Easy A
