Professor Vila is the best. This class was so interesting and I think everyone took a lot out of the course. All the topics covered were interesting and Professor Vila created a safe environment where everyone could participate and share their thoughts. His grading style was very relaxed and focused more on effort and progress. I would recommend that everyone takes this course.

Professor Vila is one of my favorite professors at Midd! He is very accommodating and caring for every student. He also creates a very carefree and relaxing space to enjoy the class and dive deeper into a fun topic like sports. Highly recommend this class!

If you enjoy writing and feel it could help you heal in any way, take this class! The actual class setup was odd because Vila would just talk to us about random things going on in his life and occasionally read some pages from a book, but the writing assignments were really enjoyable. He doesn't grade your papers. He just leaves comments which, from my experience, are always positive. It is clear that he really cares about his students and wants them to succeed in life; I have had some great conversations with him outside of class. He lets you pick your grade at the end of the semester.
