Lighting Design I: Beginning
Lighting Design I: Beginning This course examines historical and present lighting theories, theatrical artistic movements, and theatrical literature, leading to the planning and conceptual development of the lighting plot. Class projects will also introduce the student to sketching, painting, sculpture, script analysis, and presentation skills. In addition, students will work on productions in order to understand better how theory relates to practice. 25 hours of production lab work will be assigned in class/
You could tell that Professor Mark Evancho was truly passionate about what he was teaching. The class itself was interesting, but I would say that it is more theroy based in lighting rather than actual application. However, I still think that it was beneficial.
Mark is a great guy and is super passionate about lighting. This class will give you opportunities to do lighting for school plays afterwards, but those are totally optional. Not much homework. Super interesting class about something I knew nothing about before hand. The projects and homework are fun. I would totally take it again.
Mark is a great instructor - very passionate about what he does, supportive, and eager to keep learning. If you have experience in lighting design, this will be a very easy class, but you will learn a lot of valuable theory.
Mark is SUCH a nice guy. You can really tell how much he loves his job and all of his students from the moment you walk into his classroom. He has a ton a lighting experience and is very enthusiastic to share that with you. That said, taking theatre design classes can be a huge time commitment due to lab hours and all the projects. We also had a very difficult midterm test on the reading that almost everyone bombed.
