Scenic Design I
Scenic Design I: Beginning Exploration and development of basic set design skills for theatre and dance. Class projects will introduce the student to sketching, sculpting, script analysis, and presentation skills. The design projects will challenge the student's imagination and creativity through historical and current theatrical literature, the study of artistic movements in theatre, concept development, and research. In addition, students will work on productions in order to understand better how theory relates to practice. 25 hours of production lab work will be assigned in class.
This was a really fun and insightful course and I loved that we got to actually work on a set in construction and see the final production as part of our grade. I learnt a lot about making models for sets as well as how the set designer has to collaborate with people in charge of directing, choreography and lighting design. Mark is really accommodating and fun to be around and his passion for this art is compelling and contagious.

Project based class where you design sets for various plays that you read. It was honestly really fun and Mark is a super nice guy. I will say that if you're not a theater/english person the paper prompts can be a little confusing but they're still doable. A great distribution class.
Mark is a very chill person. He wants to connect with students but also he might come across as someone who constantly tries to make people happy. He is very knowledgeable in the contents of the class but he sometimes lacks the confidence to stand by it in class. He repeatedly tells students that “i don’t know what I’m doing” which is totally valid. This is theater, this is art, you mess around until you find out what works and what doesn’t. I just felt like as an instructor he needs to convey that idea but also not seem too indecisive.

Mark is a great person and the class was relatively interesting and enjoyable. He rambles a lot and sometimes grading a little confusing, but it is generally an easy class if you show up and put in the work.
