Professor Cronise is a character for sure. I took this Emotions class as one of the core classes for the Psychology major, and at first, I was interested and excited for the class. However, as the semester progressed, I realized that this class was more of a burden than it was a learning experience, for a multitude of reasons. I believe that Professor Cronise purposefully makes the exams difficult to an almost unattainable standard. The exams are usually 35 multiple choice and then an essay portion afterwards (around 1,500 words), all done with a short time limit. What I found unfair is that her multiple choice is mainly based on textbook readings more than class material in itself. For the essay portion, her standards were not always clear. She tried to make them clear with posting "perfect responses", but she ultimately gets to decide how she wants to grade, which isn't consistent with the standards she posted. Even if you go to her office hours and ask for advice on how to do better, you probably still won't see a drastic improvement in your grade. I implemented her feedback and would just get a worse score. I would then ask what I had done wrong, and she would say I just missed some small things, but those small things were a deduction of like 20% to her. I honestly wonder if she grades harshly so that people just go and talk to her about the content, which feels unfair because as students we have other classes to worry about as well. The classes also felt repetitive and redundant after a certain point (which still didn't make things easier surprisingly). Additionally, the homework were a lot of videos that were usually 25-30 mins long with questions that took forever to answer sometimes. I also think this class was heavily based on neuroscience, and I wish I had just taken cognitive psychology for a more psychology-based class. Take this class with caution, but I did learn some things. Just don't know if it's worth it overall.

I really did not enjoy the teaching style for this class. It was my first class with Professor Cronise and I was looking forward to the content and material, but her lectures and expectations were hard to follow. For example, she asked us to meet with her in office hours before exams to go over questions and make sure we understood the material exactly as she wanted us to say things on the exam, but then had extremely limited office hours and not everyone got the same amount of time or any time at all. When I tried putting concepts into my own words to demonstrate further understanding, it was marked as wrong because it wasn't in the specific wording she wanted. This would make sense in some cases, but it felt that she only wanted to see the exact word choice that she personally preferred, which feels more like an intro- level class than a higher level elective.

Mike Dash was a great lecturer, we had some difficult scientific readings as part of our course work but they were relevant to the content. Mike is super flexible if you have questions or extenuating circumstances. Highly recommend, had lots of fun in this class.
