Color in Theory and Practice
Color in Theory and Practice Is color experience universal? Why are the primary colors primary? What’s so special about magenta? In this course we will explore the relationship between color theories and historical developments in optics, philosophy, vision science, and art. Students will read a range of texts on the subject of color—from philosophical debates about the nature of color properties, to art historical analyses, to contemporary meditations on color’s cultural significance. This course combines seminar and studio work: we will develop critical thinking, research, and writing skills, as well as complete exercises in paint and collage designed to sharpen our color acumen. No previous artmaking experience is required.

Professor Roger White is very friendly and kind who is very approachable in the face of any problems. His class is also very interesting breaking down different theorists of color theory with manageable reading. I love his color study work where we would visit the library and study the color interplay of a chosen work. Also is the final paper where we would choose a color and study it from any perspective we want. Would definately recommend his class!
