Global Feminism
Feminism: Global Roots of a Movement Feminism has transformed how we think about gender, race, and sexuality. Around the world, the movement has taken different approaches to make claims for equitable political and social rights. Simultaneously, feminism as an intellectual project has shifted how we approach knowledge production and craft scholarship. Through case studies, we will explore how the histories and cultural contexts of different parts of the world shape the practice of feminism. We will also analyze the efficacy of specific activist projects.
I really love Prof. Sujata! She is such a kind, supportive, and inspirational teacher with a clear passion for teaching and social justice. That being said, I feel like her class was more lecture than discussion based. I think the difficulty level as a whole might have been too easy for me (as I've taken gender/feminism classes in the past), and maybe I would have been more engaged if I were learning and discussing topics that were new to me. However, I really do appreciate her focus on non-white feminists, as that is what we usually are taught about. She also brings snacks!

I thought that this class was interesting, but a lot of time the lectures felt too slow paced. It was hard to stay focused. The material was worthwhile and the professor is very interested in what she is teaching. The grading on essays were very chill, but sometimes the assignments were crunched all together.
Overall, I think that this class was a pretty solid first-year seminar! It was fairly slow-paced, not a ton of reading for every class, and Prof Moorti went over it all in class. All of the material was super interesting and it was especially important to see Feminism through a non-Western lens. That being said, it often felt more like a lecture-based class rather than a discussion, but overall interesting -- I'd recommend it!
