I love the way Professor Graves leads in-class discussions; they are very easy to follow and lead you to discover new themes and topics in the texts. This style of discussion was especially useful in Reading Literature, as it gave me new ways to close read passages and look for meaning in a text. I do wish we had had more short writing assignments though. For a CW, there are only three short essays, one of which I didn't get feedback on, and it would have been helpful to practice text analysis in other ways other than papers.

Outside of the occasional very long reading, this class was a really fun experience - Cates Baldrige is incredibly enthusiastic and a great teacher, and the material we covered was very interesting! Class is extremely discussion-based (you will be expected to speak), with 2 papers throughout the term and a challenging final exam.
This course involves reading a host of novels from the early 20th century from many important authors. None of the novels are particularly long but readings are often long usually amounting to a book a week. Professor Cohen did a good job of going the text during lectures and often highlights key details you might have missed. The only assignment for this class were three papers of varying length. These were very open ended which was both helpful and unhelpful because it was hard to tell if Professor Cohen agreed with your analysis of the text in his grading.
