Making Art in the 21st Century
Making Art in the 21st Century What is it to be an artist in the 21st century? How can seeing and making art help us understand our own time and place? In this course, we will examine some of the many permutations of visual artistic practice in our era, trace the art-historical roots of these contemporary forms, and analyze art’s relationship to political, social, and technological developments across the globe. Students will explore these topics by creating their own artworks in response to studio-based assignments, employing both traditional and digital art media. No prior art-making experience is required.
I love Professor White! He is so enthusiastic about the material and super accommodating to students! I learned so much about modern and contemporary art in this class. I think this class is a good mix of making art and learning about art! It's pretty reading-heavy, but you can get by with not doing them every so often. would def do it again!
Professor White is really accommodating. This class is pretty chill. There are a couple of readings but usually, you can come to class without doing them. Homework is different art projects throughout the semester like a painting or performance act. Usually pretty easy and he gives you time in class to complete them,
Professor White is the highlight of this class. He cares about his students and is very accommodating to any conflicts that arise with class time and due dates. The class is super chill, though the readings are a bit abstract and failure to complete them will make discussions boring and a bit difficult to follow. I think if you're not invested in art as a concept, there are other ways to fulfill art credits, but if you have any personal interest in modern/contemporary art, I would recommend this class.

Professor White is a very informed teacher in his respective field. He cares about his students learning and tries to make the space as welcoming and open as possible. I would take this course again. There is homework and projects but no tests.
