Visual Storytelling Through the Lens This photo-based studio course examines the ways images work together in succession to build narratives. Students will study contemporary and historical approaches to the photo essay in addition to authoring their own stories with images they have taken or sourced by other means. While we will discuss the basics of image making, the class is focused on the sequencing of images. Students may use any type of camera for this class including cell phone cameras and no prior photographic knowledge is required. The class will culminate in a web-based slideshow and printed book projects for each individual student.

I really enjoyed this class! You get out what you put in. My class was a range of people trying to fulfill their art credit, all the way to people majoring in studio art; nonetheless, I think it offers something for everyone. Michelle gives you a lot of creative freedom to try things out and appreciates exploration.
This course was a lot of fun and little work. The projects were interesting so it made you want to do extra in order to make a cool piece. I learned a lot about what it takes to design things and definitely worth taking.
I really liked this class. It was open ended and allowed you to be creative. The class is very lecture heavy and sometimes they can be very boring. Honestly, a lot of the lectures, you can find tutorials online. But, overall a really fun class for majors/minors and easy art class for a distribution requirment that doesn't require a lot of art skill
You get what you put into with this course. It is relatively easy and the projects are pretty open-ended. If you pay attention and put in effort, you will take away a lot. The professor is awesome and helps you create your best work.
