Natalie Eppelsheimer
This course is definitely not easy, the vocab can be difficult and confusing at first and a lot of the readings are dense and take some time to understand. But it is all worth it. I got a lot out of the class, maybe the most I've learned at Middlebury. Natalie is amazing and wants her students to learn and be excited about the material. You have to be prepared for class though, DO THE READINGS.

Professor Eppelsheimer is amazing. She is extremely passionate and makes her students excited about the course material. SO MUCH to learn and experience with her and the people she arranged meetings with. We spent 2 weeks traveling around Germany and Namibia discovering the legacies of colonialism and spent a large amount of that time meeting with experts and discussing these histories. If this class is ever taught again TAKE IT.

This course was co-taught by both Natalie and Florence. The pair are a super energetic, fun-loving, and engaging duo. The course moves pretty quickly but as long as you stay on top of vocab and review grammar concepts every so often, you're going to be just fine. The homework can be a little confusing sometimes in that the questions asked or the answers expected can be formatted in ways you might not expect. Vocab quizzes and chapter checks are graded quite strictly but fairly as the professors want you to understand the content thoroughly. Classes are a mix of lecture and student participation with anything from pretending to be at a restaurant or playing bingo by asking one another about our holiday plans. Would highly recommend for those even curious about learning another language!
