Cihan Artunc
Professor Artunc might seem “uptight” at first, but the classes get more relaxed over the semester. Be prepared for a lot of problema sets! Overall, he’s great at teaching and incredibly helpful and keen to explain content (especially during office hours).
This course was good for an economics course, I think the early morning time and the pure lecture format makes it hard to enjoy the class if you do not find economics particularly interesting. There was only one problem set a week but they take roughly 2-3 hours to complete. The exams were pretty long for the 1 hour 15 minute allowance time, because the questions were extensive. Some topics were hard to distinguish and easy to confuse if you did not do the readings, but the lectures did go into depth on topics, and he gave opportunities to ask questions. His office hours were very particular and didn't have many options though, so asking questions during class is very important.

Professor Artunç comes across as incredibly serious right off the bat but as the semester goes on, his knowledge and passion for teaching economics becomes very clear. That being said, lectures can be a little boring at times and he can be prone to overexplaining portions of the content—though his use of the board and examples in class is very effective at conveying the course content. Managed to get through the course with minimal use of the textbook and picking things up from lecture but the amount of reading, if one were to actually do it, is actually a fair amount on top of weekly problem sets and the group project. Weekly problems sets are graded pretty easy, in class quizzes are mostly just to check that you were attending, and the exams are graded pretty strictly but fairly. Previous knowledge of economics either from a high school macro or intro micro (econ 155) will make the first quarter of the class much easier and cut down on the amount of reading.
