Anne Goodsell
I thought Prof. Goodsell's teaching style is very clear and she is happy to explain everything to you as many times as you need. She is very available to students and is always looking for more ways to give us help and resources to use. My main problem with the course was that her lectures are much more drawn out than I think they could be which put me to sleep a few times in her class because I felt we were moving too slow. I also have a little bit of a bone to pick with her about grading since I think her points calculations for mistakes are unfair sometimes on the quizzes and exams. Going into this course I had a background in IB Physics which meant I already knew most of the material and I was just getting newly exposed to the calculus part of the course, but it also meant I got bored quite easily because I was not learning the material for the first time and that definitely contributed to me not liking the course.

Professor Goodsell is one of the most valuable teachers you will have at Middlebury. Not only is she incredibly kind and supportive for her students, she is so motivated and passionate about physics. As someone who struggled with the subject in high school and did not have much motivation to find passion in this course, I quickly found fun in physics concepts and in the lectures. The demos are super helpful, and she is an engaging teacher. She is so great at explaining and her office hours have been incredibly helpful.

Anne is incredibly talented at teaching. She is engaging and enthusiastic while clearly teaching the material. I could see where some students find her “corny” but in my opinion I enjoyed her passion because she very clearly loves what she does. She was my most accommodating professor by far and she was super easy to approach. I always could depend on her to explain a tricky question on homework if I needed it. In terms of the course, it wasn’t too tricky if you have a good background in calculus. If not, 108 might be the way to go. The tests can be quite hard, but they are fair. They always include material covered in the course and if you study, you will be fine. Overall, I highly recommend!
