Alla Fil is a great Spanish teacher. She is someone who takes the time to make sure that her students understand what is going on. Whenever someone was lost or confused she made sure to give them extra help but in a way that did not take away from the other students. I would definitely recommend going to her office hours. The exams are rather difficult, but she is a fair grader. Make sure to take the time to study before the exams

Alla is such a great professor and she is super kind. This was my first spanish class at Midd so I was worried it was going to be too hard but it was super manageable. Many who had taken 201 thought it was easier and it only meets 3x (I had the 50 minute sections) a week. This was probably one of my favorite classes I have taken which is definitely in large part due to Alla. There is homework that is graded on completion, a book that we read as a class and each group presents a small portion of it, a couple small in class writing assignments, and three exams. The exams are take home and the final exam is not cumulative, it is just the test for the last unit.

This course was a good introduction to the Spanish department at Midd. That being said, It was pretty fast-paced and there was a lottttt of reading each night. We would learn new grammar and concepts on our own for homework and then she would go over them in class the next day instead of teaching us the new concepts, which worked for some and not for others. She is a bit of a tough grader but it's not bad, and there are always opportunities for extra points that go towards the exams. There was definitely a lot of conversation encouraged, which I feel is the most important part of learning a new language. She is also happy to meet with you one-on-one if you don't understand something. She's really kind and I would take a class with her again.
