Business Ethics
Business Ethics Capitalism and competitive markets are often considered the most efficient system of simultaneously maximizing private wealth and public good. In the real world, however, truly competitive markets do not exist. Imperfect markets have been made to work efficiently while protecting public good through systems of public intervention, i.e., laws and regulations, and voluntary self-restraint by business organizations in response to societal expectations. In this class we will consider the role of ethics in business, with students analyzing the process by which ethical norms and strongly held moral beliefs guide the conduct of economically driven business organizations. Students will reflect on business managers’ responsibility to their owners, i.e., shareholders, other stakeholders, and society-at-large.

This was a very enjoyable class to take. I loved having Tim Nguyen as a professor, and I felt that I had learned a lot from the course. The workload was very light. There were readings for homework, and in class, he would lecture and occasionally cold call. We had one major project, which was a presentation, but no other graded assignments. I would definitely take this class again.
Taking Business Ethics with Tim was incredibly enjoyable. I enjoyed learning about the topic and also his teaching style specifically. The course was made up of readings and then discussing them and discussing certain topics that Tim brought up. Each person had to do a presentation and one case study paper. The workload was not the worst and it's a class that I would definitely take again.

Tim is the absolute best! Most of the class requires reading beforehand, and then class time is discussion based. One of the most engaging classes I have even beed in and Tim as a professor is incredibly engaging. Very light work load but you will get a lot out of the course.
Tim is truly an outstanding instructor. The course mainly involves doing the readings ahead of time, and then the in-class sessions are centered around thoughtful discussions. It’s easily one of the most stimulating and interactive classes I’ve ever taken. Tim does an amazing job facilitating conversations and keeping everyone engaged. The workload is very manageable, but the insights and takeaways are incredibly valuable.

Overall great class. Professor Nguyen is incredible - always there to answer questions about the class and talk with you about your career aspirations. This course itself is very easy and laid-back, but I still feel that I learned a great deal. Totally recommend!
Tim Nguyen is the best. Highly recommend taking a class w him. All he does is give real world advice as we talk about relevant topics. He’s super fun and one of the few professors you want to talk w outside of class
tim nguyen is one of the best professors at middlebury. he is engaged and makes the class discussions interesting and feel worthwhile. the content learned in the class is definitely helpful as midd doesn't have many business classes.
Professor Nguyen is a great guy, very willing to take students out and get to know them better. Coursework consists of several projects but if you put in the minimum effort and try to participate you will do well!
This class was really beneficial, super interesting course about understanding how businesses operate and some of the morality issues behind specific practices. The readings that he provides are really informative and I recommend doing them.
