Climate Crisis & Photography
The Climate Crisis, Place, and Mindful Photography in Copenhagen Copenhagen, one of the world’s most livable cities, is not immune from the impact of global forces. We will examine the city’s response to three issues associated with the climate crisis: microbursts, migrants, and burning fossil fuels. In this course we will follow a systematic process to create a deeper, more meaningful, and lasting personal connection with Copenhagen as a place. We will study the climate crisis, geographic theories of place and space, and the literature on “mindful photography.” We will conduct photo shoots at locations identified with our three issues and discuss and write about theory, process, and the subsequent connections we make to places in Copenhagen. The course will culminate in an exhibition of photos and oral presentations.

The professor is very passionate about the subjects of the climate crisis and photography, but there was an immense amount of confusion due to disorganization and indecisiveness. There was not a proper balance of both subjects, but more on photography, and less on the climate crisis. Mindfulness was emphasized, when writing should be higher on the agenda. Regardless, it was a nice class for improvement as a photographer. Anyone who enjoys photography will like the class.

Professor Case is an amazing person who you could sit down with and talk to. He is one of those people who tries their best to understand what you are saying. However he is not the best professor due to being unorganized with everything he does. Professor Case is very confusing with his assignments and make you feel more confused when you ask him a question. I don't recommend take a class with Professor Case, due to not feeling ready/prepared for college level writing.

The instructor was very well-intentioned but the overall feeling of the course was disorganized and chaotic. It felt like the professor was designing it as we went and the expectations weren't clear. He was very indecisive and when prompted with questions he would just turn them back around to the students. Despite the course allegedly being focused on the Climate Crisis we did not study this at all.

This is part of the Middlebury-Copenhagen first year class. The course lay emphasize on mindfulness and place. It is a very chill and relaxing class as FYSE and relatively light course load. Students interested in mindful walks and photography will really enjoy this class.
Professor is very enthusiastic about the topic but the open-endedness of the class made assignments very confusing. I feel like more focus on writing and less on mindfulness is needed. The class went in circles at times as well.
