Marvel Comics & Society
Marvel Comics & Society Comic books and graphic novels are a powerful storytelling medium that often connects to both contemporary cultural issues and human emotions. Marvel Comics has long used their pages to tackle issues of race, poverty, gender, identity, science, and justice, either indirectly or head-on. In this course we will analyze both the source material and scholarship related to Marvel comics, as well as learn to communicate our own analysis and stories in both written and oral forms. Note: This course will focus on the comics, not any of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films. Enrolled students must purchase a subscription to Marvel Unlimited (https://www.marvel.com/unlimited) for the duration of the term.

I really loved this class. Professor Pask is super passionate and knowledgeable about the material, and it is easily the best class I've taken here so far. It was a lot of fun and very interesting, especially if you're big into Marvel and/or comic books.
I absolutely love this class. Yes there is a good amount of reading but the only thing that you're reading is Marvel comics, and Professor Pask is very understanding when it comes to essays and other writing assignments. You do have to write a good amount but it's mostly reflections and analyzing comics, so it's enjoyable. Also a lot of fun group activities are occurring in that class which never makes it boring.
