Global Film Histories II
Global Film Histories II In this course we will survey the development of global cinema from 1960 to present. Our study will emphasize film as an evolving art, while bearing in mind the influence of technology, economic institutions, and the political and social contexts in which the films were produced and received. Screenings will include representative and celebrated works from world cinema.
Professor Dobreva is very enthusiastic about the topics in class. Classes are mostly discussions, and you are expected to read the assigned readings before class. There are four take-home exams (more like response paper) and Professor Dobreva is an easy grader.
Professor Dobreva is an awesome teacher as long as the class engaging too. I like how she doesn't take the essays super serious (4 essay exams throughout the semester) in terms of super high writing standards. She focuses a lot more on the content, and this comes through in discussion as well. Given you've gone to the weekly screening (which is a nice break, too) the discussion that follows in next class can be super interesting and I honestly really enjoyed it.

Just not terribly interesting, and the film choices sucked. Lots of reading and boring film watching. The professor tries to facilitate discussion, but the engagement over these film choices isn't there, not what I thought the class would be like. Easy grading, though.
