Professor Siddiqi is a wonderful professor who is deeply knowledgeable on the literature of forced migration, displacement and English as a language. However, she is also the most inconsistent grader I have had at Middlebury. The essay exams were in class, "open note" and graded harder than I've had any in-class essay graded. She grades for spelling and sentence structure as well as the development and themes throughout. These essays will make up a large portion of your grade and while you are allowed revisions, she will hand back the papers extremely late and give very little time to transcribe your entire essay onto a google doc and make revisions. All that said, you will read prolific Palestinian writing (Said, Barghouti and so-on) that will stick with you long after the class. I highly recommend the content of this course but the actual teaching at times is quite difficult.

Marion Wells is lovely. This course was a fantastic intro course. The readings were extremely manageable and class discussions were so interesting. Wells is amazing at leading discussions and she cares so much about her students and the material. I would recommend this course to everyone.
ENGL 0233 was a great English course and every book we had covered during the semester was an interesting read. The discussions facilitated by Professor Graves were also engaging and effective. The class has a relaxed environment with manageable expectations and offered a lot of flexibility in terms of graded assignments.
