Advanced General Chemistry
Advanced General Chemistry This course is a one-semester alternative to one year of general chemistry (CHEM 0103 and CHEM 0104). It is open to all students who have received a 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement test in Chemistry. Students who have two or more years of high school chemistry without AP credit may enroll with permission of the instructor. Topics will be drawn from the traditional general chemistry curriculum, but discussed in greater detail with a more thorough mathematical treatment. Special emphasis will be placed on chemical bonding, coordination chemistry, and real world research in chemistry.
AJ is so knowledgeable and teaches so effectively. I really enjoyed her lectures. I sometimes need extra time to work on some problems in her homework problem sets. Her grading was fair if you study hard for the exams. I learned a lot.
AJ is an amazing professor who is very enthusiastic and helpful. This class is fast-paced, and you will need to study on your own. The lab does take a lot of time and going to TA hours helped a lot. The TAs helped clarify a lot of questions and I don't think I would have done as well in the lab if I had not gone to ask them for help with the lab. The lab instructor is nice, but particular in what they want to see on the reports. However, I personally think the requirements were reasonable, although time-consuming. Both the lecture and lab are structured very intentionally, and the professors will explain the reasoning on why they are teaching something, or why they require something for a lab. The best advice I have to succeed in this course is to go to office hours, review constantly, and to not cram. AJ tells you everything you need to know, and you just have to put in the time to understand the concept. If you scored well on the AP chem exam, the content shouldn't be anything new, and it is a good review of equilibrium, thermodynamics, kinetics, and bonding.

AJ is awesome and definitely wants all of her students to succeed. The content was difficult for me, since I haven't taken chem in a few years, but for students who recently took AP chem it seems very doable. The lab will require a lot of time, especially when reports are due. Problem sets each week vary in difficulty, with the most difficult taking me 5+ hours to complete and the easier ones ~2 hours. Only 2 exams, including the final. Exams aren't incredibly difficult.

I really liked this class, although lab was tricky. I learned a lot, and both AJ and Professor Dube are helpful, and so are the TA hours for lab. Def go to those. problem sets can take a while but the exams are significantly easier than the problem sets
Prof AJ is very helpful in terms of lecture and explaining the big ideas. The only part of this class that I don’t like is the lab portion, which is required and needs a significant amount of time to complete.
The lecture portion of this course was not to tough. It is very fast passed, but Professor Vasiliou is amazing and very helpful. What makes this course very challenging is the lab portion, which takes up the majority of the time I commit to this course.
AJ is a great professor and her passion for the topic shows! the class is very fast paced and difficult though. Problem sets are assigned for homework each week which are very helpful in checking knowledge.
This is a great class, especially for students who took Chemistry in high school. Although the lab was intense, Prof. AJ and Prof. Dube were both very helpful. The problem sets are important as the exams were generally easier.
