CHEM0205 with Thomas Anderson3 days ago

As a visual learner, I loved Orgo I, and it was way better than Gen Chem for me. However, Prof. Anderson's lecture style consists of writing complete sentences on the board and doing some examples on occasion. I felt like I learned most when we did the specific practice problems on our review day the day before our exam, but every other day just made me confused and frustrated. The exams are pretty challenging, and oftentimes felt more challenging than the practice problems and problem sets, which was super frustrating and honestly felt pretty unfair. He isn't great at explaining concepts in office hours, so Organic Chemistry Tutor on YouTube really helped me in this class. I took this class for a pre-med requirement, and overall, feel relatively prepared for this information on the MCAT, but am lacking a ton of confidence in it because of the exams being harder than the practice problems.

orgo is supposed to be hard but i think that this course was unproportionately difficult. everything makes sense during lecture and prof a is very good at taking and answering questions, but the answers are not always very helpful and the exams are way more difficult than the practice and hw problems. one thing i do appreciate from this prof is how straightforward he is in his expectations, i just think he could give a bit more grace considering how difficult he makes the exams. lab saved me from failing tbh.

CHEM0322 with Linamarie Miller8 days ago

Dr. Miller is fantastic and one of the best profs. I've had here in the chemistry department. She was great at explaining concepts, and although she did go fast during lecture, she was willing to slow down if needed. She included a lot of partner discussion and group discussion, and was a very fair grader. Her exams were extremely reasonable, and I learned a good deal from this course. Discussion sections consisted of weekly partner presentations from different groups on a dense biochemistry paper, but the skills learned in primary literature analysis were beneficial.
