I really loved this class. Everything I learned I was also applying in the other science classes I was taking and I will continue to use the knowledge I gained in this class towards in the rest of my major courses. The tests were very fair and lab was definitely a big time commitment outside of class but I gained a lot from the experience of writing formal lab reports
I think this class is overall just a really difficult topic. Anderson knows what he’s doing though and always was able to answer questions we had. He curves really hard on the exams as well which really gave our grades a boost
As a visual learner, I loved Orgo I, and it was way better than Gen Chem for me. However, Prof. Anderson's lecture style consists of writing complete sentences on the board and doing some examples on occasion. I felt like I learned most when we did the specific practice problems on our review day the day before our exam, but every other day just made me confused and frustrated. The exams are pretty challenging, and oftentimes felt more challenging than the practice problems and problem sets, which was super frustrating and honestly felt pretty unfair. He isn't great at explaining concepts in office hours, so Organic Chemistry Tutor on YouTube really helped me in this class. I took this class for a pre-med requirement, and overall, feel relatively prepared for this information on the MCAT, but am lacking a ton of confidence in it because of the exams being harder than the practice problems.
