Kira Rahn

CHEM 0104 was definitely one of the more challenging courses I've taken at Midd, but highly rewarding. I didn't love Professor Rahn's teaching style (lots of groupwork and struggling through problems yourself before she would explain them), but it was manageable and her exams were fair. I think the real reward from this course came from Prof. Dube's lab. While time intensive, Prof. Dube definitely strengthened my lab skills, in both technique and in scientific writing. She is also a fair grader and wants to see you succeed. I thought this was a super rewarding course for me, as someone who didn't have a ton of lab/research experience at the time.

I enjoyed my experience taking CHEM0104 with Professor Rahn. The class was certainly fast paced and at points felt like a lot of work, however overall manageable. Weekly quizzes and online problem sets added a bit of stress, but grading on all assignments felt quite fair. Classes mainly consisted of some lecture and some group work, which allowed us to practice the material we were actively learning. Professor Rahn also always showed enthusiasm for the subject, making it easier to engage with.

Professor Rahn is very enthusiastic about chemistry! The bulk of the overall grade comes from the 2 in-class exams and 1 final exam. We have Typical Test Question quizzes once a week on the material learned within the past week. Each quiz is worth 1% and the lowest score is dropped. The Achieve homework is time consuming and while she does emphasize group problem solving, you may have to spend time learning the material she did not cover extensively in class to do well on the Achieve homework.
