James is super nice and super passionate! The main assessments are papers which are not too challenging. Its a super interesting course, sometimes his teaching is a little all over the place but he is super creative and the course is lots of fun!
Heavy on the reading/writing front, but I believe you'll get out what effort you put into everything you'll cover in this class. If you want to do well, then you have to be up for the challenge of struggling in this course. The personal challenge is deconstructing the way you understand the world, which the way you're used to writing will absolutely include. The practical challenge is balancing this course with your other courses, as the work piles up easily. Every week focuses on a subunit of anthro and comes with 2+ readings and a film - expect to write about these in your fieldworks (assigned every other week), media journal (ongoing), and cumulatives (a midterm and final paper). Sheridan is caring and willing to support and inspire you throughout.

There were like 150 pages of textbook readings a week. I did none of them. Most all the info you need for the 2 exams (midterm and final) are taught in lecture and he gives you the essay prompts ahead of time so you can scour the textbooks and prepare. 3 essays throughout the semester that were 3 pages each, so also a textbook situation for those. But other than that, just lectures and some fun lab activities (looking at pottery and bones, throwing spears). Fitzsimmons is super enthusiastic about the material and is a kind grader and human.
