Sue Fenstermacher
Professor Fenstermacher is honestly one of the most accommodating and kindest professors I have had so far at Middlebury. Although her social psychology class was scheduled from 7:30 to 10:25pm once a week, she usually let us out an hour early, reading the room and recognizing when the energy in the class had dropped. I really appreciated that, and it wasn't just about leaving early. It was also about not overwhelming us with too much content at once. Even when she could have moved on to a new topic after finishing one, she would often say it could wait until next class so the material would be more digestible. Although we had 5 total exams, with the final being optional if you wanted to replace a lower exam score, I would say her exams were fair. They were difficult at times, but if you simply reviewed the class notes and read the articles she assigned, you would perform fine. It really comes down to effort. I also appreciated that she did not assign much homework. It was usually just one assignment a week that took around an hour and a half at most, so the workload outside of class was minimal. She also offered a lot of extra credit opportunities that could boost your grade significantly. This class was not a stressor for me at all. Additionally, when I asked if I could take her exams earlier due to conflicts with other exams, she was willing to post them early for me even if it meant extra work on her end. I also did ask for taking exams later, and others did as well, and she granted us that request. We also did have one mandatory paper to write (optional: two papers if you wanted the average score of both of them), and as long as you visit her during office hours, you will do great. I visited at least twice and ended up scoring above 100% on the one paper I submitted. This class was a great experience and I learned a lot of valuable information that I plan to apply in my own life. Definitely take this class with her!

I really enjoyed this class and Professor Fenstermacher was very informative in lecture and managed to keep the class engaged even though it was a night class. Topics were very interesting and exams were not difficult and fairly graded. Virtually no homework each week, aside from a small amount of textbook reading and one assignment. Great class.
I thought the class content was pretty interesting, however it faded throughout the semester as the nights felt longer. For a reference, I am night owl and I thought that the class time wouldn't effect me, but I was wrong. Proceed with caution!
