Very interesting and informative course. You will learn deeply learn about the start of Weimar Republic to the end of Hitler. It will, however, not only stuff you with information and materials but will rather make you think deeply about the cause and the motives behind the most tragic incident in history. Definitely recommend.
This was easily one of my favorite courses I have taken at Middlebury. It's a discussion heavy class that relies heavily on class participation. The readings are dense, but you can rely on common sense and history to guide you through the course. Only a couple of lectures, but the rest were student lead discussion on ideas that have no clear answer which was fun.
I am not a History major or minor, and I wanted to take this course because it knocked off a requirement, but also to fill my schedule. This ended up being one of my favorite classes so far. I believe the professor does a really good job of teaching such horrific tragedies in an informative and interesting way. This class does require you to read a lot, and the class is based on discussion. Sometimes she will lecture, but most of the time you will discuss all that you have read in class. It is important that you read everything because most of it comes up, and if you don't, you will be lost in the discussion. The professor also expects you to contribute to the discussion and not be the only person who never speaks in class. Overall, I enjoyed this class, and it was informative and triggered new ways of defining mass atrocities.
