We had one problem set every other week, and it took about 2–3 hours to finish. We could use our best three exams out of four, and although the exams were hard, the grading was fairly generous. The professor cold-calls everyone, but once you get used to it, it’s not too bad.

I took Macroeconomic Theory with Professor Mathews and absolutely loved the course. He is extremely knowledgeable and clearly passionate about his work, which really comes through in his teaching. The material is challenging but rewarding, and Professor Mathews does a great job of connecting theory to bigger economic questions. The exams are long and fairly difficult, but they reflect the material covered in class.

Peter Matthews is a truly great professor! He really knows what he is talking about, and he does a great job "simply" explaining some tough concepts and economic models. His office hours are mainly just students helping each other out and figuring out the stuff together, but if you really really need him to explain something, he will. He offers review sessions before exams which are super helpful to go to. He makes lots of jokes, and likes to tease his students, but in my opinion, it is very endearing. I would definitely take a class with him again.
