Otilia Milutin

Otilia Milutin is really sweet. She can really take any point that you bring it into discussion and treat it as gold. Her class structure is extremely easy. You have to fill out two discussion posts a week based on the assigned readings, which shouldn't take more than 30 minutes for each, and then come to class expecting to discuss with people around you based on those readings. There is also a presentation component in the class, where a new person will present on an assigned article related to the class lecture. You only have to present once during the whole semester, and you have the option to do it earlier in the semester if you have other more time consuming classes. She has a few paper assignments but they're all either 1000 words or less. Overall a really easy class with a great professor.

With each new book it's something new to consider regarding Japanese women's perspective whether it be power dynamics, "taboos", or human relations. The class was not stressful and the readings were manageable and enjoyable. There is also paired academic readings alongside each new book that you must choose to present about. Overall, very enjoyable and engaging class.
Professor Milutin is very sweet and I really feel her passion in teaching this topic. There's a lot of reading but the discussions and presentations are very enjoyable as we each learn from our peers. She also brings snacks to her class and is really helpful during office hours. Would greatly recommend!
