Niwaeli Kimambo
This course had a very steep learning curve and I found that I often had to teach myself how to do things. Kimambo is a super nice person but her teaching style didn't work that well for me. I will say this course gets a bad rep in the ES department for being really hard and while it definitely took a lot of time it was also manageable.
This class was challenging. As someone who is not a geography major, the learning curve was incredibly steep. However, I learned a ton in this course and found the material valuable. Exams were quite challenging, but projects were interesting.
Niwaeli is a very nice person and is very flexible when you struggle to meet deadlines or don't grasp concepts. Going to office/TA hours is crucial in this class. However, her teaching methods aren't the most effective for the work that she required us to do. The expectations were unreasonably high, and I think more hand-holding was required to get us through the lab work. It often felt like we kind of went over concepts and then were expected to apply it to complex QGIS systems. The large class size and limited amount of office hours also did not help. For a class required for all ES and Geo majors, this class is very challenging and time-consuming. Professor Kimambo will not make it easy.
