Michael Kraus

Professor Kraus is a wonderful professor. Although the material is nuanced and heavy, the course work is doable. The initial test is challenging, but the two essays following it allow you to make up for it. Though his lectures are very old school, Professor Kraus is an enticing speaker and often humorous making the lectures a little more exciting. He is very understanding and is always willing to have conversations with his students outside of class. Overall great experience, and i'm so glad I took this course.

Prof. Kraus is very knowledgeable about the topic and also is an extremely humorous person if you enjoy the Czech style of humor. Very responsive and always available during office hours. Multiple readings are expected for each class and a few response papers for the whole semester, alongside a midterm, an essay, and a final paper. Writings have to be of good quality and proofread before handed in.

Kraus is a wonderful professor, one of the best Middlebury has to offer. It is a shame that he will be retiring soon. He is a real treasure trove of information, and a very fun lecturer. If you don't mind the fact that he is on the older side and can get a little grumpy, he is great to work with. He takes care of his students if they show interest in what he is doing!
