I think this topic is super interesting, and it is clear that Mez does as well. I enjoyed discussions in this class, but most of the class (myself included) did not do the reading in depth, probably because most of them are quite long and dense. I would have liked more lecture to cover concepts rather than huge readings.

This class requires a lot of not very exciting readings to prepare for each class. We often learn about specific court cases and then discuss them together in class. I don't find this particularly valuable to my learning because we often don't add much analysis that goes beyond the readings while in class. My other main criticism is that the essays did not always pertain to what we were learning in class ad just felt extra and unnecessary. That said, Professor Mez cares a lot about the students and starts each class with a little game or activity that helps us get to know our peers. If I ever needed help or extra time on an assignment, she was very forgiving.

Mez is an incredibly enlivening professor who meets students where they are. This fall was incredibly difficult for many of us and Evelyn was in our class before she died. Mez allowed us time to grieve and gave us full range of choice over how much and how little work we did, as long we communicated with her about how each of us were doing.
