Megan Mayhew-Bergman

Megan is a great professor and writer and can be incredibly helpful if you seek her out. However, it is clear that she has a very busy life and career and it doesn't always seem like the students are her number one priority. The class functioned more or less like an independent study, with infrequent check-ins and a lot of solo writing. Grading is pretty soft.

This class behaves quite like an independent study course with supplemental readings. Frequently you do not need to turn in progress reports on the project, but at the end of the term, it still must get done. My project ended up being around 15,000 words, which meant some weeks I was really grinding and some I wasn't. MMB is a professor who doesn't take too much of your time. She's very available, yet occasionally slow to reply to emails. She knows what she's talking about and she can really improve your writing. She can be absent, but I think the learning opportunities in this class come not from being in lecture, but from writing and receiving feedback. I thought the subject was interesting and MMB was really nice, but unfortunately, she was pretty absent. She didn't help us much outside of class hours, since I think she's pretty busy with her career. It's not a problem if you want an easy A, but it can be disappointing if you want to take a lot out of the class.
