If you want a real class where you feel like you're learning valuable material that actually matters, don't take this class. With that being said, it is an incredibly easy course and it can give a CW credit if that's something you need. The name of the course is incredibly misleading, you will not learn about the Mediterranean. Burnham has a quite appallingly Eurocentric view of this region and barely ever discusses anything outside of France, Italy, and Spain. We spent more time learning about "the Mediterranean of the North" (Scandinavia) than we did learning about Muslim cultures in North Africa and the Levant (the actual Mediterranean).

Bad class. Lots of readings that didn’t seem to relate to the course theme very much. Had to memorize dates for exams and papers were not graded quickly. A shame as it could have been very interesting I think.
I found this class frustrating, as I didn't really enjoy the reading selections and found the lectures diluted and scattered. We didn't get our midterms back, had only one short paper, and never discussed in class. Disappointing because the content has so much potential to be cool and Professor Burnham is very knowledgable.
