Professor Burnham clearly cares a lot about this topic, however due to the nature of how much content we had to cover we never went very in depth. The readings are not too difficult but rarely proved to be very beneficial for the class itself, I found myself focusing more on the supplemental readings that our discussions were based on. I would recommend this class if you are truly interested and able to stay caught up when she goes on her little tangents.

Louisa Burnham was very passionate in her teaching and made the class very enjoyable. There are no exams and only papers. Two midterms and a final. We had discussions every Friday that talked about a specific reading. Overall, great first-year history class.

Professor Burnham was highly passionate about the material, but lacked organization. The discussions were very one-sided on her part and did not foster much genuine engagement. We spent a week on the Roman Empire in its entirety, and an equal amount of time on paper, which felt less useful. While very passionate about her subject, I would not recommend the course.
