Louisa Burnham

This was a fine course but as someone who wanted clear standards of grading and feedback I found it exasperating. Professor Burnham had not graded any of our essays or final projects by the last day of class and I never received any individualized feedback even after the end of the course.
If you want a real class where you feel like you're learning valuable material that actually matters, don't take this class. With that being said, it is an incredibly easy course and it can give a CW credit if that's something you need. The name of the course is incredibly misleading, you will not learn about the Mediterranean. Burnham has a quite appallingly Eurocentric view of this region and barely ever discusses anything outside of France, Italy, and Spain. We spent more time learning about "the Mediterranean of the North" (Scandinavia) than we did learning about Muslim cultures in North Africa and the Levant (the actual Mediterranean).

Bad class. Lots of readings that didn’t seem to relate to the course theme very much. Had to memorize dates for exams and papers were not graded quickly. A shame as it could have been very interesting I think.
