Larry Hamberlin is great. He is super passionate about music, and it is hard to not be engaged in one of his classes. I'm not sure if this course is still offered now that he is retired, but I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to understand the history of American music.

There was very little course work for this class and occasional readings. However, the exams were difficult because you needed to memorize a lot of random songs. Professor Hamberlin was very enthusiastic about the class.

This course is very reading and reading response heavy, luckily however there are no long papers. Main projects are group work which are guided research presentations. Classes are basically all discussions, and it is a pretty unengaging, so pretty easy to zone out if you aren't super invested in the material. Larry is a decent professor, but good at talking and has quite a lulling voice, so get a good night's sleep before this class.
