Keegan Callanan

The American Political Tradition with Professor Callanan was one of the best classes I have taken in my entire academic career. While the course requires a heavy reading load and you will often find yourself spending long hours in the library, every reading directly contributes to what you ultimately learn. Nothing feels assigned simply for the sake of it. Class time is largely discussion based, focusing on the arguments of the readings and how they apply to real political scenarios. Professor Callanan does an excellent job breaking down complex texts and clearly explaining their significance, which makes even challenging material feel manageable and worthwhile. The exams can be difficult, particularly the quote identification section, but grading is fair and forgiving if you demonstrate genuine understanding. Overall, the course is demanding but extremely rewarding. I genuinely do not think I have ever learned so much in such a short amount of time. If you have the opportunity to take this class, I would strongly recommend it. Professor Callanan is an outstanding professor.

Callanan is fantastic and intelligent professor. Constant reading and pretty dense material but manageable if you space it out well. Tests and papers were hard but he grades fair and if you put the work it is very possible to do well.

I enjoyed this class. I had never taken a political theory class up til that point, and the class discussions were interesting. I would say just make sure you know the readings well. The instructor is very friendly and keeps the discussion in class flowing, which I liked.
