Jason Arndt is a very strange guy. For psychology professor, he isn't very accommodating of anything that you need. He is super invested in the material and is a decent teacher. His tests are hard, and if you want to get an A, I would take it with a different professor. He is very specific on how he wants you to word the short answer questions. His papers are also graded fairly harshly. It was an experience for sure. I learned a lot, but if I could go back, I would take it with a different teacher.

Cognitive Psych is a super interesting class and definitely helped me solidify my career interests. Professor Arndt is extremely knowledgeable but he is one of the worst graders I have ever had in Middlebury. He wants you to memorize answers and word vomit in exams without paraphrasing a single thing otherwise he will deduct marks because according to him you don't understand the concept. His exams are absolutely brutal. I particularly disliked the multiple-choice questions and the short answers. Definitely take the class but not with him if possible. Or take it with him but pass/fail or credit/no credit.

Taking this class with Prof. Arndt was really a mixed bag. On the one hand, he's an amazing lecturer: he keeps you engaged and interested in the subject. Apart from that, he really does care about what he's teaching. On the other hand, he's an absolutely terrible and hardcore grader. This means that although exams seem easy---if you do not give a perfect answer with very thorough explanations, he will take off points. And considering that there are a couple of short answers, you are very likely to get below 90, if the wording wasn't exactly how he wanted it to be. Sometimes, even textbook definitions did not work as a perfect answer. I had a feeling that I was expected to give answers as if I had already studied neuroscience and had a PhD. I would not take a class with Prof. Arndt again, not because he's a bad teacher, but because I simply cannot handle this much stress and anxiety.
