I enjoyed taking a studio art class in J term. We had a few big projects- about a drawing a week with a critique. We got to do some figure modeling and still life as well as ending the class with a portrait drawing of a classmate. It was fun to learn how to use pastels! My one issue with pastels is that they are pretty messy and got all over my clothes so make sure to draw in a smock/not in your room

A very fun and interesting class. I enjoyed working with the live models, props, and various mediums. Every class was different and there was a lot of discussions and low-stakes critiques. There were also some simple quizzes on historical and contemporary artists/artwork.
Jim is a very friendly and funny guy, and great at holding class discussions about painting and art in general. He is very knowledgable and invested in his students. There are only a few paintings created during the course so there's a big emphasis on revision and thinking through each individual painting.
