This course was incredibly interesting and gave me an understanding of life in general in the middle east that I didn't have before. However, this is not a class you should take to fill a fourth class or round out your schedule. There is a TON of super dense reading and both the weekly discussion posts and the papers for this class require a lot of thought. Professor pinar is great at teaching and is very passionate, but I would not reccomend if you expect a heavy workload.

Professor Pinar was extremely passionate about this class, and her requirements for this class weren't difficult. Though (as with many humanities courses) it was constant reading. Also she sometimes would get lost in what she was saying. Nonetheless I learned a ton!
My experience in this course has been overall good. Lots of readings, like a lot, but she assigns the whole week of readings in one go, and is on par, if not a little more, with other senior seminars. I agree that the amount of readings could be more focused and shortened, as we do not typically have enough time to even fully address the readings in class. Pinar also does weekly outlines for each week, which I found incredibly helpful to grasp and quickly understand the week's topics. All the work is really readings with a discussion post, a comment in class, and you're good for the week. The midterm paper and final paper are really the only other assignments, so you largely chill for the school week.
