Florence Feiereisen
German 101 with Florence and Natalie was such an incredible experience. They are both some of the most wonderful professors I have ever had at Middlebury, always coming to class with a smile on their faces and eager to help us out whenever we needed. I did not have much experience with language courses before coming to Middlebury, but this class was an excellent beginner course to take. There is a good bit of homework, and the daily classes can get a bit tiring, but the learning from it is worth it. Reflecting on how much German I learned in just a few short months left me feeling incredibly accomplished, and that couldn't have happened without these amazing professors!

Florence is the sweetest Professor at Middlebury. She is extremely kind, enthusiastic, energetic, and engaging. I could not recommend taking a course with her enough. She is very chill and wants you to do well. The bulk of this course is spent learning about german history in the 1900s and then using that history to create a character profile and write their story throughout the century. It requires write 2+ double spaced pages in German weekly, which seems intimidating at first, but truly isnt that bad as it is not very deep. Great prof, cool class.

German and its Cultural Context is a great course that offers a broad overview of relevant German history. It also provides a great opportunity to practice writing. There are light to medium difficulty readings accompanied by essays that are mostly creative writing. Florence is very nice, and you really get out of this course what you put into it.
