There is a heavy work load, but if you learn the professor's expectations and use class time wisely you can get the work done. The teacher is extremely flexible and the content is very interesting. As someone who had never taken a formal art class before, I enjoyed our in depth examination of foundational drawing skills.
I think this class was a waste of time and i would not take it for an art credit. I’m not minoring or majoring in art so I thought this class was very long and a waste of my time. I think other art classes would be more beneficial.
Overall I did enjoy this class. However, I do not think it is structured well for J-Term. The class was very fast-paced and required a lot of outside work. Homework was given every night and a larger assignment would be given over the weekend. In this class, I did gain a lot of skills and drawing techniques to use in the future. However, if you have already taken any sort of Intro to Drawing either in high school or a prior semester this class can feel like a repeat of material. Este was a fair grader, but is definitely looking for certain things skills-wise and will take off points for things such as the perspective being off. If you are looking for an easy low-key winter term or something to fulfill an art requirement class this is probably not for you. If you are looking to improve your drawing and are willing to dedicate time outside of class then I would recommend the course.
