Ellery Foutch
The class had some interesting material especially at the beginning going over some romanticized and classic art works. Towards the end I personally disliked the material, such as conceptual or absurdist art. Professor Foutch is very nice and every class you talk in groups and do a few reading responses and have two short conferences with her over the semester instead of exams.
I love prof Foutch! She is so sweet and accommodating. You can tell that she really loves what she teaches. For this course, we chose an object from the 1900s homes, and we stuck with this object for the rest of the semester. There are about 3 papers each about ur object. They are usually 3-7 pages, and for the final paper, its 5-7pg. The reading arnt that much either. Although it can get a little repetitive. Prof Foutch also have alot of in class activites such as old family board games, we got mowed grass with the Middlebury landscapers, we took a trip to the Sheldon Museum, movies, etc. Overall loved this class!

The work in this course all basically oriented around a giant spreadsheet database that we made for the Sheldon museum’s collections. I found the work and the content engaging, but I certainly can’t describe it as life-changing in any way. I enjoyed the course and found Ellery to be a lovely professor, albeit sometimes a bit timid for lack of a better term. She’s not the kind of be very strict or hardnosed, which made the entire project feel more laid-back, but sometimes I’d have wished there were a firmer hand in control of everything. At times it didn’t feel like anyone was “in charge.” We still got everything done the same, it just felt unclear at times what direction we were going in.
