Although I originally just chose this class for the distribution requirements it hit, I ended up very much enjoying the class. The class was taught as a 3 hour class once a week, which tend to usually be unbearably long. I never felt this in AMST251, however. Deb split our class up, with the first hour being a lecture (that tended to be interesting), and the second half being a role-playing game over the design of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in DC. The readings for each week are lengthy, but you can get away with not doing the majority. There were 7 books on the reading list for the class, and I never bought any of them, yet was still able to keep up in class easily. At first, I was uncertain about the role-playing game, but Deb specifically sent out a form at the beginning of the semester asking your preferences before she assigned roles. I specifically asked to not have a role that required me to do too much speaking, which she honored. As for our professor, Deb is super sweet! Every week she brought us a snack for our 10 minute break in the middle of class, and she was always open to answer questions (though if a question you asked was about the Vietnam role-playing game, be warned, she may hit you back with a "well, what do YOU think") She is a pretty lenient grader, and there are not many actually assignments for the class, especially for a CW.

Deb Evans is a fantastic teacher and although this was a daunting course description, the class was manageable and enjoyable. I would definitly take a class with her again and would reccomend this course.

This was a super fun course. It is a long class, but it's broken up into two periods. The first was a lecture and the second was a role-play game. There has been no significant amount of work, and Deb is awesome.
