Darien Davis
HIST
As a person who is highly organized, this class was extremely frustrating. Even with frequently reading the syllabus, I never knew what was going on. Although he is evidently passionate about these topics, his teaching style was ineffective due to his disorganization. He tried implementing fun activities, but they often fell short due to the class' confusion.
I am not a big history person, and I took this class to fulfill distribution requirements and out of personal interest of the subject. I found the course content highly interesting, and while lectures move at a pretty fast pace, I felt like I was able to keep up for the most part. He's a really nice professor and is very understanding of his students (based on his syllabus he gives extensions as long as you give him warning), and it is really clear that he is highly passionate about the content. However, I really struggled with how disorganized Professor Davis could be, which was especially frustrating when we had to prepare for in class discussions/activities. He often goes back and edits the syllabus/assignments with no warning and gives conflicting information about assignment due dates and content. But I think that as long as you regularly check the Canvas page and his syllabus for updates, you should be okay.

I really enjoyed taking this course and the prof was very relaxed with the lectures and the amount of work he gave. We only had a couple readings a week, and throughout the class we only had a couple essays that were all easily graded.
