We read lots of articles but I felt her teaching style was not suited for me. The words I learned in the class are not often used in real life so I would forget the words. But I do like the presentation part where a student presents every class.
The class is taught in the same way as every other class in the department––the instructor walks you almost sentence-by-sentence through the material, stopping to briefly explain new grammar patterns and terms. Once the end of the lesson is reached, there is a (very short) period of class discussion around the topic, and then right on to the next lesson. Overall, a lot of being talked-at and not a ton of practice with using Chinese to discuss social issues being studied. However, there is no requirement of handwriting characters. No tests, only short in-class quizzes, one project, homework, and essays.

Liu laoshi wasn't the best at giving extensions at all, but she was good at teaching and guiding you to your point. Your chinese would definitely improve in this class so have fun with your presentations!
